What is salary packaging – The smart way to maximise your income

Salary packaging is an ATO-approved employee benefit that affords you the ability to spend your pre-tax dollars. Ordinarily, you get paid in return for work but before this happens, your employer deducts income tax. The remaining balance is then deposited into your account. Then you pay for all your living expenses, and, if you’re lucky, you put a little away for a rainy – or sunny – day.

Shadforth employees have access to a fantastic savings opportunity, through our “Employee Savings Program Initiative” - this is a savings fund, where you can deposit money from your weekly pay and then withdraw it when required. These savings accounts are managed by Shadforth, and employees nominate via their online timesheets how much money is to be withheld from their weekly pay and deposited into the savings fund. Requests for savings to be paid out are also done through the online timesheets.

Employees Online Timesheet Portal will display the balance in your savings account from the processing date of the last pay run (any released savings or new deposits will update this balance when the next pay run is processed).

Some of the reasons our employees use the savings fund for, include:

• Save for quiet work weeks, such as wet weather periods
• Save for annual holidays
• Save for annual bills such as rates, car rego, insurances etc
• Save for unexpected expenses - emergency medical, unexpected bills etc

Conditions

• Withholding money from your pay and depositing it into your savings account, will occur after tax.
• Statutory super and any other deductions will be calculated and paid on the employee’s weekly earnings before deducting off any amounts being withheld for savings.
• Yearly payment summaries will include all money deducted from your pay and deposited into your savings fund.
• Amounts being retained in employees’ savings funds will not earn interest.
• Maximum amount an employee can request to be withheld from weekly pay is equivalent to the weekly after tax pay i.e. you cannot request more than what your weekly payment would have been.
• Maximum amount able to be accumulated at any one time into the savings fund is $10,000.

Normal timesheet submission deadlines apply in regard to submitted savings amounts in weekly pays (we recommend that savings deposits and withdrawals are entered into your Tuesday timesheet for simplicity).

Terms and Conditions

• The referrer must know the candidate personally and be able to vouch for them based on knowledge of their work or character
• Employment periods shall always be based on first working day as recorded in Viewpoint and having worked industry expected hours ie 6.30am - 5pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays as required
